Check Out Pinnacle Park In Sylva

Updated: Oct 9

Pinnacle park was originally the water shed and collection area for the town of Sylva. Now it has been repurposed for hiking and running. There are a few limited campsites. Blackrock and Pinnacle could be the only public trails in Sylva where you can gain views of the whole the Sylva and Scotts Creek Valley. Pinnacle boasts a 360 degree view. The trails here are steep and rocky.

SAFETY: This is a 911 area, but the cell service could be spotty. The terrain is steep with steep drop offs. Rescue from here is difficult. Be prepared with a map and basics like food, water and rain gear. During Winter and Spring months, the weather at base could be quite different from what you find as you climb. Be prepared and fill out a free pass in the parking lot at the kiosk. Here is a Map of Pinnacle Park

OVERVIEW: Start in the parking lot at the end of Fisher Creek Rd. Sylva, NC. From there you can hike the short circle trail just off the parking lot around the creek and old water collection area. This hike is pretty short and not too strenuous for most.

Pinnacle can be accessed by heading up the East Fork trail for about 3.4 miles past "Split Rock" and up to the hard left turn out to pinnacle. This trail is marked. The trail out to pinnacle from here is short and winds out the ridge until you reach the pinnacle rock out cropping area. Be aware of the edges here especially when wet and icy.

Black Rock can be reached by continuing past the left turn off to Pinnacle until you reach the Shelter Rock trail which is more like a grassy old logging road until you find the Pinnacle Bald Trail which goes straight up the mountain literally on a narrow trail until you reach the rock outcroppings of Black Rock. The views here are amazing when it's clear. You can return the way you came or go for a full round trip by taking the West Fork Trail back to East Fork then down the parking lot. The West Fork is a narrow step rocky trail.
